I will start by introducing myself.  I am Richard Phillips.  I attended St Michael's School with my brothers, John and Robin, from 1955 to 1958.  I was reminiscing with a friend on our respective childhoods and I got to thinkings about my time at St Michael's.  The upshot of it was that I did a search for the school on the web, and, Lo & Behold!!, I found the OMA web site.  I was delighted!! To think that you all have such an active association!   But then I thought that it was pretty unlikely that anyone would remember me (but that's me being negative).  If you would be kind enough to drag out the 1958 panoramic photo of the school, you will see me standing at your right shoulder.

I have to say that I do remember you, and as I looked through the pages of the OMA, a host of names came flooding back to me.  Peterjohn Best was an immediate recollection, and I was sad to read of his death.
What of me? I spent my career teaching.  I enjoyed it for many years, but must admit that the last few years were an uphill struggle.  I was so glad to retire!  I married a lovely Irish girl, Mary, and we have three children, Angela, John and Pearse (but no grandchildren - yet)
I am enjoying my retirement, spending a lot of time in our little cottage in France, but our home is in Maidstone, Kent.
Please feel free to forward this email to anybody to think might remember me, or my brothers.
I hope to meet up with you, perhaps, next year at the OMA reunion.  I have already booked the date, when I find out when it is!
I look forward to hearing from you, or any of the others.
Have a lovely Christmas

Hi  all OMAA ,  trust you are all well or as good as it gets as we get older.

News from the mother ship or more accurately the honourable John Wally informs us that they have gone hi tech with the distribution of the Newsletter and The Mitre.

We of course in the outbacks of the colony are still relying on the pigeon post or some of you more extravagant OMAA 's may have lashed out on the later version of the kookaburra post which calls twice a day, morning and evening.

So if you have subscribed to one of those talking handset things and connected it to your television or whatever that look alike box is , you may wish to try this new fangled method.

Apparently all you have to do is type -  sorry yes you need a keyboard thingy - www.oma.org.uk . and hit the "enter" key . Sorry you cannot tie the message to your pigeon or kookaburra. Apparently the www thing is a "cloud " and your birds would die in there.

Your television thingy will now show you the OMA web site.  This is where we have the Australian influence as  I  am assured that the web site is so called after the Australian funnel web spider.

You can now go to the Library and read the latest newsletters etc. Not sure that I remember a library at St Michael's but it is there now cos  I  went there. Apparently it is in colour but my black and white box is fine for my level of requirement

Please try this new fangled communication and let me know how you got on. If you hit any issues let me know.  If you still want me to send the documents to you via pigeon or kookaburra let me know and  I  will send them to you.

As I lived abroad I did intend at some point plan to return to visit . As there was at that time  no internet,
I was unaware of the Schools closure until sometime in the late eighties. I accepted the fact that St Michaels (and my later school years experiences) were now just my memories with a small number of photographs to substantiate them . Last week whilst surfing the net I was staggered to find “The Mitre”. I spent days nostalgically viewing ALL the photos and communications and re lived the entire experience (I have a lot of spare time to use on nostalgia; you can only spend so much time varnishing your boats wood trim).

Choir, Cadets , Class mates and fellow boarders , guys that I hung with were Ian Dupont , Martin Clare, Roy Nairn , Gerald Wase , Bary , Harkness , Coats, Gunner , Hodge , Heading , Craddock , Todd , Woolven , to name a few . The fact that so many of you are still in touch and sharing these memories is awesome . If appropriate I will send an aerial undated photo of the lodge and a group ACF photo not included in your existing library.

All Old Michaelian's who remember Jonathan Russell will, I am sure, want to know the latest Medical Bulletin regarding his health.
Jonathan has been very poorly for most of this year and unable to carry out his duties as Parish Priest in Elham, Kent. Our dear friend David Ratcliff has been helping out during this time and it is David who has kindly kept us updated with Jonathan's health.
Over the past week I have received two communications from David Ratcliff and I am pleased to report to you all that the second communication does provide some optimism. Jonathan has received a massive amount of Chemotherapy and there does appear to be signs that this treatment is beginning to show signs of success.
Please continue to keep Jonathan and his family in your thoughts and prayers and I will continue to keep you all updated as further news is released.

Hello,
I have just found this site.
I attended the School as a border in the mid to late 60's.
Margaret Forman, I was also there with my brothers Ian & Andrew.
Does anyone remember us? I shared the dorm with Carol Parsons, Anita Patel, Pauline Carr, and Erica. I remember the cold walk to Church each morning, the long walks on the beach, my awful performance as a fairy at Mr White's production of "Over the Rainbow", where I ended up being pulled off the stage crying! (I was only about 9)
Also the jam sandwiches and mugs of tea on a Saturday, watching Dr Who in the tiny tv room. I was one of the youngest there at that time (as a border). Boys I remember are David and Kenneth (who was very kind to me when I had my long hair cut too short!).
Would love to hear from anyone who remembers me or my brothers.

Margaret (Forman)

Hello everyone!.
Please don't think that my question is a belated April fool thing.
Does anyone know or remember the Recipe for the infamous, "St.Micheals Fish Pie"?.
On the contrary to many of you, I used to look forward to it on Fridays. I dont seem to get the taste that I remember quite right with my experiments. Should I not be the only living ex OM that enjoyed eating fish pie perhaps someone could send me the recipe to, camarguehengst (at) msn.com

Aah, Ian Durston and John Warboys on the scene. Remember you both very vividly!. John, you are retiring?. I'm still trying to earn enough to think of retiring. In Germany they would rather see you drop dead than have to pay a OAP. lol

Many thanks to you and all the other OMs for their concern about Jonathan.  The situation does vary from day to day - some better than others.  He had useful and mercifully quick appointments at the hospital this week.  His blood is said to be OK and he was fitted for 24 hours with a heart monitor as his AF (irregular heartbeat) is being affected by the treatment.  The painkillers have been changed as they were part of the cause of him feeling very unwell but it is not known if he can manage without them. Much of the pain comes from the shingles.  It must be a big problem for the doctors - treating one serious illness is hard enough.  Because it is about 10 days since his last chemotherapy, his immune system is at its lowest so cannot be visited this weekend and of course very sadly for him and all of us in the parish, this means he cannot take any of the Holy Week and Easter Services even if he felt up to it.  He intends to retire in September so this is his last year as Vicar of a parish.
Please do continue to think of him, Monica and his family.  Prayers and good wishes for a blessed Easter for all.
David

Good morning to you, imagine my surprise when by accident I discovered that Saint Michael had a wed page and an association.
My time was brief at the school ( 1957-1959) but it left a lasting impression on me.
please send me information on joining the association.
Credit card would be preferably , but can send Dollars cash if you like.
I remember Miss Hayes while desperately trying to ram knowledge into our young minds, always had somebody it seemed in her geography class, that had either lived or was from the part of the world we were studying.
Poor Mr Taylor the history teacher always appeared on the brink of constant poverty.
The Friday fish and mashed potatoes, has put me of eating fish for life.
Having chocked on a fish bone I cannot eat fish without causing a nasty public spectacle.
The epic bus crash with the old double Decker returning from London is still fresh in my mind, seeing myself as though in slow motion flying through the air.
In fact the more I ponder the more I smile to myself at found old memories.
looking forward to your reply.

Cheers

"Three Kings from eastern lands afar, to Bethlehem followed the pointing star". So begins a Christmas Carol/Song/Hymn which I have remembed all my life from the choir at St. Michael's. This "pointing star", has been visible to us here since the middle of November, appearing in the east and one of the brightest stars in the sky.
On this 24th December/ Christmas eve may I wish all Old Michaelian's a very happy Christmas and the very best for the coming year. Let us all perhaps take a minute out the celebrations to think of those who have no roof over their heads, live in fright that the next bomb will claim their lives or don't have enough to eat.

Merry Christmas everyone.

Hello out there,
I'm Richard Powley & attended St. Michaels from 1961 to 1966 as a day boy. I sung in the choir and have vivid memories of a lot of the names I have read here. Henry Tayler, Michael Whight and Christofer Whight are all teachers that I remember very well as of course our illustrious Headmaster, The Reverend Roger Percival Pott.
I served in the army from 1970 until 1976 and after my discharge, stayed in Germany where I am still living. I am married but we have no children.
I would be very pleased to hear from any of you who may remember me. The Email is there for everyone to read.
All the best to you all,

Hello
Graham French-Paris here, I was at St Michael's for two years 1957/59 and just visited Heacham (The Shooting Lodge) and Ingoldisthorpe to show my wife and three daughters the school. The current occupants, welcomed us in and invited us to look around the grounds. They also showed me the OMA Guest book and I saw my old friend Robert Balshaw's name. I had just been talking about our wet Whit Monday cycle ride to (well I thought it was Cromer, but maybe it was Wells)!

What a good idea. I seem to remember that the East Anglian Archives convert all film onto CD to safeguard the original. Perhaps we could donate the films and ask them if they would make us a CD for our archives at the same time they make theirs. Eventually we could donate all our archives to them.

In January this year we visited Yokohama to stay with our son, Peter, and his family who live there. The children attend the Yokohama International School, so I was able to check the "Past Head Teachers," brass plaques in the front hall, and there, sure enough, was commemorated one Rev. Roger Pott! The School Librarian thought there was some archive material on him, and I was going to meet up with him later in our stay when he's had a chance to check, but unfortunately he was taken ill, so we were not able to follow this up.
By the way - a very late thank you for the organisation behind the re-union last October, and to Simon for his moving tribute to his Father.

Best wishes

In reply to Ben Frost, you will (should) remember me- Chris Gibbs! I was one of the "professional scivers" who along with yourself used to mark the running track, paint the goalposts or cut the grass. We could even take up the whole games period just reading the weather instruments in that Stephenson screen on the grass below the rectory at Ingoldisthorpe. Anything to get out of games! As you have ventured back to Heacham, I would have thought that you might have liked to come to a reunion. There will be people there from your/our era- although you may not recognise them at first! I've no idea what you have been up to, but I have been married for 28 years we have two grown up children and one grandson and two step-granddaughters. We live near Margate. Lets us know what you have been up to and see you at a reunion.

Cheers, Chris Gibbs. 1964-69.

I have really enjoyed going back in time, although I didn't really enjoy my school days. Having left St Michaels now some 40 years, and I have often been back to Heacham. Don't like the changes, but then I don't like any changes. BRING BACK THE OLD DAYS!!! I have really enjoyed looking through all the old photos and somewhere I have a load more which I will try and find to add to your collection. I do know that in the loft I have a couple of programs of the Christopher White productions, but it is just a case of finding them again. I have never attended a reunion and never will, as I doubt if I would know anybody there. I have a shocking memory.

Super to see you all , It was a wonderful weekend and   successful  it undoubtedly  was , so many  people told me how good it was  to be part of such a very special  unique occasion   !
I always thought St Michael's School avant-garde now   realise I was one of many with the same opinion, we  valued   the experience.
For the first timers , or newly returned I hope they'll be back for another reunion ..
I certainly   enjoyed it  ,  very emotive and tear jerking but that made  all the preparations  and hard work more  worth while !

Simon and Jenny , you have such a delightful and hugely talented daughter ,  Genevieve was the star turn , I  wanted her to   sing and sing for ever!
Best wishes  ,

I believe I have the distinction of attending the school at its very beginning [1946] I probably can also claim to have been caned by Roger Pott [Sir] more than anyone else! one was to do with not holding my knife correctly! on average once a term.
I am now retired [1998] and had a working life in heavy engineering based in the UK, finishing up for the last 25 years as managing director.
I now live with my second wife Lynn, in the Wirral, with the sea at the bottom of our road and the Royal Liverpool golf course a couple of houses away.
I have two daughters by my deceased wife Janet, and two grandchildren.

Hello!
I discovered the OMA Website while pottering with my laptop during a bout of flu and was delighted to see that there is still what seems to be a flourishing old boy/girl network. I was at St Michaels from 1961 to 1965, as your records correctly state, and have many fond memories of my time there. For the record, I currently live and work as an Architect (commissions scarce at present!) near Weimar in Germany, married my wife Ingeborg in 1973, have two grown-up offspring, Henry and Hannah. Henry is currently studying at the Univ. of Greenwich. Naturally I would be very pleased to meet some of my former school contemporaries and may well try to get to this year's reunion if I can arrange it.

With regards, David Jakobsson

You'll be very sad to hear that Patrick Sleight, who went to St Michael's in the late 1960s lost his two year battle against prostrate cancer on 21st October. I don't suppose anyone knows of the whereabouts of his great friend from school Louis whose Dad ran a pub in Brancaster.

My name is John Wallington and at the recent OMA Reunion AGM I was elected back onto the OMA Committee as Editor of 'The Mitre'. Our publication is still the linchpin of our Association and serves as a vehicle of communication between OM's all over the world. 'The Mitre' will only be published once a year commencing 2006 and I am determined to make sure that, not only is the standard maintained, but that we try and enhance the Mag. by a slight change in format and style, but most of all by the inclusion of many more articles and memories from you, the Membership.

If you would like to contribute in whatever way, either by submitting an article and/or an old photograph, please contact me directly. It will be great to hear from you.

Thank you

For those who missed it, a superb weekend with 70 degrees and no wind (well not from the weather anyway) was enjoyed by all, 41 sitting down to the meal. So book your place on this organ to say you will be there on the 28th/29th October 2006 for the Diamond Jubilee weekend when we are delighted that even those from far climbs will be assembling. The hotel and the church are both booked and if I could I would book the same weather which this year was the best in living memory at Hunston! Seriously though, this will be a big one and it would be great if those reading other names here were inspired to come back. This year we had three who had never been back and I'm sure they won't mind me saying that they really enjoyed it and will return again. More about them in the Mitre. I hope that you all have a wonderful reunion at the weekend. Will be thinking of you as we do annually! Perhaps, one day, we may be able to coordinate our periodic overseas trips home to fit in with a Re-Union. Was last able to do this in 1994 - and stll relish the memory.

With all good wishes,

Hello all,
I am Julie Churchill (Taylor)& I was at St. Michaels until 1969 with my brother Clive I Found the website when looking for something else - A very pleasant surprise.
Last saw any of you at the memorial service for Mr Pott but recognised so few & had little time spare!
I have recognised quite a few names & have revisited lots of memories.
I would especially like to say to Chris Gibbs how sorry I am to hear about Helen. I remember travelling to Canterbury on the train with Helen (& Chris as minder!)to spend time with their family who were very kind.
Does anybody remeber David & Wendy King or Zana & Mark Juppenlatz?
Best Wishes

Hi,
Just found the site while browsing. I attended St. Michaels from 1968 to 1969 aged 10, with my Brother Steven aged 13. Don't know if anyone will remember me or my brother. I am now living in Kings Lynn and Steve is somewhere in Yorkshire. It was nice to see all those old names again.

Now that Evelyn and I have returned from a short break, may I thank all who helped in any way to make this year's reunion another "special." I would particularly like to thank those who came to the dedication of the bench in Ingoldithorpe church in memory of our much respected teacher, Peg Hayes - Williams. I have arranged photos of the occasion to be sent to her family in Australia and hope that they are reminded of how much Peg meant to us all. I hope that copies of the photos will shortly be available in the photo gallery of this site.

Hello, O.M.A.,
Just a short note to thank you all for a most enjoyable week end at Le Strange Arms, and the many, many kindnesses extended to Nasser and I while we were there. I truely felt like a long lost sister coming back to the fold, and even though it has been almost 50 years since we'd last met, I felt very comfortable and at ease with everyone.... the common denominator being the wonderful years we all spent together at St. Michael's. I got very nostalgic seeing all the old places that we frequented, and it was great. Even the weather was on our side. Thank you all again, for a very memorable few days.
We are now back in Michigan and I have been busy campaigning for "A Fresh Start", Kerry and Edwards. I'm off again and I hope by the end of the day, there will be a new president in the White House.

Sincerely, Susie Froozan (Barkhordari).

Hi everyone, Thanks to the Committee and to those that came to the 2004 Reunion for making it another enjoyable weekend. Two nice additions to Sunday were the dedication of the memorial seat for Miss Hayes-Williams. I will always remember her geography lessons and in my last year the trip to the west country as part of the A level course which with her encouragement I passed. The other was a look around the outside of Ingoldisthorpe Rectory.
Whilst I am here, hello to Caroline Sutton. Yes, I remember you and Nick, although you were a class or two below me. I remember the plays, your picture appears in one of the programmes. How ironic that you posted a message here almost as we were meeting in Hunstanton! Please try to contact others that you know in the area and come along next year.

Best wishes,
Chris Gibbs. 64-69.

Good morning !
I'm off to an early start as have to get through Sutton Bridge chaos to be north of Newark for 12noon so decided 6 .30 a.m. a good time of day to begin , it was pretty good taking out the wheely bin when it was so still and no one around!!
Not crazy just trying to get the week off to a positive start!
After seeing all those positive O.M.A.'s it gives one a new impetus!!!!!!!!
Thanks for this e.mail from Caroline Crisp ,amazing that she is right on the doorstep and has no idea what is going on with O.M.A.  Particularly this weekend  .Now this  is catching a local/day pupil in the net for NEXT year ! Just  confirms  a number of thoughts on why Old Michaelians don't belong to O.M.A.
Many thanks for all your hard work with the website but also sorting out masses of hidden work which we never know about.
Reunion was very  enjoyable and I thought a relaxed occasion . The Le Strange Hotel produced a good  dinner  on Saturday evening , it was good to see a few more new faces especially 'old girls'!
Best wishes to Jane hope she had a productive weekend and made the most of the peace and quiet !
All the best,
Geraldine

I have just spent the WHOLE morning looking through this website and so many memories are with me now. My name is Caroline Crisp (nee Sutton) and I attended the school, with my brother Nick (Nicholas Sutton) for 5 years between 1964 and 1969. I still live in Norfolk and my parents are still living in Heacham (no longer in Orange House). Nick lives with his family in Portsmouth. My fondest memories are of the plays we used to put on with Mr. White. I was in The Prince and the Pauper playing a peasant I think. I then took the role of Wendy in Peter Pan and finally a main role in Somewhere Over the Rainbow. My brother and I were day pupils but I remember spending so many evenings at Fridham and desperately wishing I could live there like everyone else!

I was just wondering if anyone remembers a boy called Herbie DeVilbiss, he was an American and he was in the class to the left opposite the door out of Preceptor?. I cannot find a record of him in the school's register. Also, there was a Swedish girl who was also in his class called Martine and her and I were friends, does anyone remember her surname? We are talking about 1964 thru 67/68.

I am Elizabeth MacLeod, nee Shearman, and attended St. Michael's between 1947 and 1950, when I left to go to King's Lynn and West Norfolk High School at the age of 11. I always mean to try and get to the annual re-union, especially as I am now back living in North-West Norfolk, but my grandchildren always come to stay for half-term, which makes it difficult.
Judith Boggis and I used to cycle to school together from Dersingham, a lovely ride up the back lanes. I drive that way occasionally, just to remind myself.
Jennifer Searle and I went to the High School together - I think other girls did, too - there was another Jennifer, but I can't remember her surname. I left Norfolk with my family in 1952, and returned to North London, to where I was born.
David Heard and I once got married up a tree. Does anyone else remember that episode?
I often think how fortunate we were to have had that education. I especially remember Miss Phillips with affection, and Rev. Potts with awe.
I had a career as a Chartered Librarian, and have been married for 43 years, to Roderick MacLeod, a Marine Engineer, with 3 grown up, married children, 2 sons and a daughter; 5 grandchildren, and another expected.
I am now a Local Preacher in the Methodist church.
With regards to all who may remember me - i should be glad to hear from you.

Greetings,
I have stumbled onto this website by accident, and was amazed by what I learned.
My name is Chris J.Carew-Jones, and I was registered as entering St Michael's as a student in 1948 together with my sister Rosalind. My father was the Vicar of Dersingham, the Rev'd Eric Carew-Jones, and both he and my mother Winifred were well known to Roger Pott. In fact there was an intake of girls to St.Michael's at about that time, and my mother and father arranged for the vicarage at Dersingham to become the "Girl's Boarding House", and as such I think we had up to 15 or 18 female students resident at Dersingham for quite a few years. My family emigrated to Canada in 1952, returning to England in 1955. My father passed away in 1958 at the age of 53, whilst my mother only passed away in 2001 at the age of 94.
If anybody remembers staying with us at Dersingham, or remembers me from our school days, I would love to hear from you. I have very fond memories of those days. I have just made contact with "Susie Froozie" whose email I read with great delight as I remember her and her brother Homey very well. We spent some holidays together.
I have been living in Australia in the Blue Mountains (Nr Sydney)for the last 24 years, and we have just moved up the coast to Port Macquarie about two weeks ago. If there are other Old Michaelians living in Australia, I would love to hear from them.

Just spend a couple of happy hours browsing the OMA web site...It is very interesting and very well done...Thank you...I noticed one teacher that is not on the list..a Mr (I'm not sure if it should be Rev.)?? At St Michaels for only a year (I think) might have been 1962 /63 he left to take up a post in Bedford after finding that he could not go along with Mr Potts 'unique' way of running a school.....

Dear All,
Found the OMA website last week, I was at St Michael's from January 1958 until April 1961, when I left to join the Army. I've fond memories of the school, such as melting the lead from the cables in the wood at Heacham and being knocked off my bicycle by the driver of the shooting brake, who forgot the back of the vehicle was wider than the front.
I recognise several names on the Register and the OM List. I also found a picture of myself on the Cadet Photograph in the Archives Gallery, which would put the time at late 1960 or early 1961 (I'm back row, 2nd from the right).

Hope to meet up with some faces from the past at the 2004 Reunion.

I had thought that St. Michael's was no more. Imagine my utter shock and amazement to read the story on "knowing this Suzie". It was about me! Reading some of those letters made me very nostalgic and brought back wonderful memories which had been buried somewhere deep in the recesses of my mind.... the Carew-Jones' who were very kind and loving towards a young eight year old. Miss Pott with her new car. Digging for mussels at the beach at Snettisham? Going to a medieval pageant in King's Lynn. Going by bus to London, staying in a large, empty house and then spending the night on Pall Mall in order to have a good vantage point for the coronation. Going to London with the Rev. Pott and visiting his two aunts, (who were friends with Queen Mary), and who had a lift in their apartment (flat?). The flood at Hunstanton, and seeing the mattresses on top of the trees.!
Etc. etc. I am sure as time goes by, I'll remember more of some of the best years of my life. I would love to hear from anyone who remembers me (including Valerie). My brother Homayoun and I attended St. Michael's from 1950-1955. My name, (spelt incorrectly in the register), is Soussan Barkhordari,(nee Froozan), better known as Susie (Susan) Froozie. I have been living in the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan, U.S.A. for the last 42 years. Hoping to receive many e-mails, I remain,

Yours Truely,

Hello fellow Old Michaelians. There have been quite a number of old friends passing away recently, and now I have to tell you of one more. My sister Helen died of a blood clot to the brain on July 7th. She had been suffering from MS for some years which had considerably reduced her mobility. Recently she fell and fractured her ankle. It seems that a clot from this was the cause of death.
She was at the school in its last years and the "younger ones" amongst you will no doubt remember her. I do still hope to be at the reunion this year.
Very best wishes to you all.

Hi All,
I know that it is some time since I was in Hospital but only now am I beginning to feel almost restored to good health.
I would like to thank everyone who sent good wishes, by e-mail, phone, card and personal visit, for my recovery. It is perhaps an exaggeration to say I would not have recovered without them but Barbara, John, Paul and I were immensely heartened by your messages of goodwill and hope, Barbara read them to me whilst I was in intensive care and I know that they aided my fight back from death's door.
You will know that I attended the 2002 Reunion, albeit in rather precarious health (I was still relying on a colostomy bag and all that that entails!!) and with the high wind on the Sunday I had to be held down so I didn't blow away.
I must record my undying gratitude to Bill and Jane Cullin who actually made this possible. Barbara and I were picked up at home, transported to Norfolk, cosseted throughout the weekend and returned to home with amazing grace (good old Grace she shared the back seat with Jane and Barbara!!) The weekend would have been impossible without this help.
My health (almost) restored, my plumbing back internal, and a zest for life returning I look forward to next October and the 50th anniversary of the OMA. May I see you there so that I can thank you all personally.
Martin Graville

Miss Hayes-Williams was the best teacher that I had at St Michaels. Not from an academic point of view but rather she treated everyone as equals. I remember that in my final two years at school my geography marks improved dramatically because her lessons were so interesting. James Gray and I even competed in class to see who could get the highest marks. I don't recall that enthusiasm in other classes. I remember her ticking off a certain headmaster who interrupted a Geography GCE exam simply because a boy was eating a polo mint. "How do you expect them to pass if you keep interrupting". I recall that she was gruff and tough especially on sports day when things didn't go to plan. She was from another era, a character the likes of whom we won't see again. Here's to you Miss HW. Thanks for being there.

Quite extraordinary. I have just checked the register for 1965/1966 and there I am, albeit with a misspelled name and a wrong date of birth. I have thoroughly enjoyed going through the site and have recognised one or two people, not to mention a picture of myself from a play I took part in! I specifically remember Chris White, the Drama teacher (is that the correct title for him - where is he now?) I sang as a treble in the school/church choir (half a crown for weddings and five bob for funerals if my memory serves me correctly?) I also recall singing a solo of the first verse of 'Once in Royal David's City' at the church in Heacham. I also have a panoramic school photograph from 1966; at least I think that's when it's from. For anyone who's remotely curious, I am the little one third in from the right, behind the bevy of females. I also remember playing tag around the trees at Hunstanton - also kiss chase with the girls! I'm afraid my recollection of names has disappeared - I! was only 9/10 at the time. Not, as I recall, hugely popular with the teachers, I do very clearly remember being called out from breakfast on far too regular a basis, to be chastised in the bath/shower room at Ingoldisthorpe by the Headmaster and was always up to mischief of one kind or another. If anyone remembers me and cares to get in touch, I'd be only too interested and will most certainly reply.

A fantastic & emotional weekend.
Wish I hadn't lost contact & missed out on such good fun with good people, but better late than never.
Met up with 4 old friends that I had not seen or spoken to for over 35 years; what a whizz!! & not forgetting meeting all the other names & faces which I had almost forgotten.
Many thanks to all of you who have put oh!sooooo much effort into keeping the OMA going & especially for the OMA website, without which I would still have been in ignorance of everything & without which I would not have met up with my old buddies.
( Dave ( Chris) Winter came all the way from Oz for this after being away for over 34 years - isn't that wonderful; & I collected him from Heathrow & he stayed at my home for the week, which was all he could manage. What a character he is)!!
Anyway, next year I & my re-acquainted friends will be back for the 'big one', so look out Hunston!!!!!!!!
To all OM's who have not yet attended, or not been for some years, do try & make it next year - we are a special & rather unique group after all.( Warts an' all)!!!
Truly, many thanks to all of you for the time & planning that went into this.

Well, another re-union is over and all those who attended seemed to enjoy themselves. It was good to see some new faces and, I hope, they will come again. The BIG NEWS is that Simon Pott has accepted the position as our PRESIDENT. He has promised to continue his involvement until either the association ceases or he has passed to pastures new. Congratulation to the twenty people (including some Ingoldisthorpe parishioners )who got through the tree barriers and the force 8 gales. Special mention should be made of Jonathan Russell, who celebrated and preached, and Ben Gunner, who played the organ (ably assisted by two people who pumped the bellows!) I hope you all had a safe journey home and I look forward to seeing you all again at next year's re-union.

Dear kia,
You may not remember me, Dorienne Perry. I had a brother, David, and sister Beveley at school as well.
I remember Nooshi's hair, a beautiful plait! I lived in in Iran/Persia as a child and felt happy to be in such an international environment at St Michaels, and especially to meet you!
Where in the /states are you? I have not been to a reunion, quite scary!
I married Harold East! so many people from that school seemed to get together afterwards. We are now divorced but still friends!
Lovely to hear from you.
Dorienne.

There are two weeks to go before the annual reunion. If you are coming, please let Bill Cullin know who will see that a label with your name on is organised. If you are coming to the dinner, please let Ian Dupont know together with your meal payment. If you have any matters you want to raise which are not covered by the usual agenda, please let me know.
Looking forward to the weekend and to re-meeting you.

Hi:
My name is Azar (Zarzar) Ashrafzadeh. My brother Kia (Kianoosh) sister Nooshi (Mehrnoosh) and I went to St. Michaels from 1960-1964 then left England to go to the United States, namely St. Louis, Missouri. I found this site by placing my name in the search block of Yahoo(which I do sometimes when I get bored at work) saw our names on a site for the UK and dates that coincided with the times we were there. It was a thrill when I saw photos much like the ones that are in my dusty photo album. I was very surprised that there was even a site for OMA. My brother Kia has signed us up for membership and I look forward to enjoying this wonderful site and other members of OMA. My wife and I were in Heacham and Hunstanton in 1995 but didn't have time to find the school in Ingoldisthorpe. Did have time to go to the church in Heacham were I was told by someone there that Mr. Pott had died some years earlier. I was sad to hear it. I can still remember him driving us back and forth to Hunst! anton then to Ingoldisthorpe then back to Heacham to the dorms. My experience and memories in those days have stayed with me and I often think of the track meets, cricket games, trips to London on the double decker with Mr. Pott giving us 10 shillings (a fortune in 1962)to spend on stuff. The soccer (excuse me) football games at St. Michaels were the first I had ever played. Anyway, I could go on but suffice it to say that I'm glad to be in the loop of people who have shared similar experiences and environment back when.
Talk soon Azar (Zarzar) Ashrafzadeh

Hi everyone, this is a great site, just what the World Wide Web is for, communication…! I wonder if anyone out there remembers the name of a Portuguese boy (or was he Brazilian?) who was at the school round about 1950/1951. If anyone out there can remember or has any other information I would appreciate it.
Thanks. Frank Dixon 1946 to 1958

Hi all,
This is Kia Ashrafzadeh. My brother Zar Zar found this site a few days ago to my absolute delight. We (Zar Zar, Nooshi and I) attended St. Michael’s from 60 to 64. It is so interesting to see the pictures of the reunions. Unfortunately the 38 years since I left England to come to the US, have fogged my memory quite a bit, but I hope my seeing the names along with the pictures I will remember more. The only person I recognize is Miss Williams, she has aged gracefully. Two other names I recognize are Ben Gunner and Rachel Gunter, however I have a hard time seeing that “the cat that caught the mouse” smile he always had. I can definitely see the bubblyness in Rachel. I noticed an Anne (Cullin) Gunner on the list of contacts. Is it possible that a big oof like Ben could talk one of the sweetest girls I have ever known, into excepting him in marriage (just kidding). I would like very much to join the clan. I have not been able to find the application, if someone would be ! of assistance in this area you will be able to help me add three new names to the membership roster. I think the exchange rate is five pounds to $8. It would be a thrill to get an email from any one that remembers me.

It is much regret that I have just had the following e-mail from Simon Pott.  I am sure you will all join with me in sending our thoughts and prayers to all the Pott family and friends at this sad time.

Michael Catterick
Chairman OMA

I am sad to report the death of my Mother this morning.

Isabel Edith Pott was just short of her 92nd birthday and she died peacefully in her sleep at Ounce House, Bury St Edmunds, her home for the past ten years.
Born in 1910 at Halsall, the youngest of five daughters, she moved with her family via Everton and Lincolnshire, to Annan in Dumfriesshire. As a career she became a Norland nanny engaged in London and it was there that she met Roger Pott, whom she married in 1942.
In 1945 they moved to Heacham where Roger was appointed vicar and together they started what eventually developed into St Michael's School. While the Headmaster had the high profile there is no doubt that his wife had a great influence and quietly and effectively undertook much of the background work.
The twins, Andrew and Simon, were born in 1948 and Caroline in 1950 and with their Father much engaged in the School, Isabel took the leading role in the family.
Playing a further part in Heacham Isabel was Chairman for many years of the Womens Institute and for a very long time President of the Young Wives. This seemed to have no age limit in the village, despite what the rules might have said!
Retiring from Heacham, Roger and Isabel lived for some years at Ringstead before moving to Bury St Edmunds in 1992. Roger died later that year and Isabel has lived with her enlarged family since that time, with her older sister Dorothy, now 94, joining her in living at Ounce House in the past two months.

Thanks to my brother Stefan I got aware of the existence of "OMA", which pleased me a lot. I attended St Michael's School for many summers during the fifties, both as a day-boy and as a border. As a matter of fact I lived at Gresham House in Heacham in 1954 with the Muzios before it was changed into a boarding house. I visited England with my family 1989 and tried to find Mr Pott, which I did. We had a long chat and I took some pictures. Now I found out that he died in 1992. I always had a nice time in England and I remember those years with warmth.
Best wishes from Christer Helbro

I am very glad to have found this excellent site. I was both day-boy, living with the Muzios, and a boarder. I went to school in Sweden but spent the summer-term in England. I remember many of you from -57 to -63. My brother Christer did the same but 3 years earlier. I am in the picture from 1960, 3rd row #27

Hi Everybody,
I just found the web page yesterday while surfing. I did try to find a mention of St. Michael’s some years ago with no success. My years where 61 to 67 after which I emigrated to Canada. I must admit to conflicting emotions and nostalgia rushes as I see the names of people who have almost drifted out of my memory. I have found one or two missing names from the register Antonia Parke being the most obvious as we where very close in those days. While I can not say all my memories of St. Michael’s are good ones, my years they’re certainly toughened me up for life in the real world.
I may have a panoramic school photo for 1966 I will be digging through the old photos at home tonight.
Best regards
Michael Donnelly

Hi, just got back from the OMA committee meeting at Martin Graville's, As we were chatting, the subject of accident's in school vehicles arose, We wondered if any of you can shine any light on the subject, When, Where, How, and by whom... It seems as if there are one or two stories to tell, If you can recollect any, please write them up and send them to Martin Graville at  martin@graville.co.uk  This would make good reading for the Mitre, Michael Catterick recalled the time he adjusted the side of a Commer van, Ian Dupont remembered a time when someone turned over the Mini bus outside the gates of Ingoldisthorpe.... We hope to hear from you all soon.

I was amazed to learn of this site from my sister, Lynne, and yes its incredible to suddenly have memories return of times gone by. (Time doesn't fade all of them).
Winter films on Saturday evenings at Ingoldisthorpe church hall. What other school ran Double Decker buses??
Many pleasant and some not so memories. Good to see the site and perhaps a re-union meet may fit into life's busy timetable of family activities. I still have one of the panoramic photos taken at Hunstanton 1965/6.Anyone remember the mad tag games in the trees and along the fence at Hunstanton with the occasional broken collar bone?
My years 1965-69.

You very kindly sent me the o.m.a. details when  I  had problems with my computer and everything in the memory had been lost. Thank you very much .At present I am very committed looking after my 95 year old mother , but I have not  forgotten my days as an O.M. and will return eventually for re-unions. Those far off days were very happy and stress free and important during the formative years in my life. I  have kept  in touch with a few old friends , which is great.. It is quite amazing the number of o.m.'s who find the website and contact you, I am pleased it is so  successful.
Many thanks

Hello,
My name is Sean Jensen formerly Sean Vrotsos. After many years of searching out my past I located my birth mother who sent me to this web site.  My father Richard Vrotsos attended this school in 1960.  The first picture I have ever seen of him was your 1960 class picture.  Amazing!! Unfortunately he passed away in 1980 unknown cause at the age of 30.  I have no photographic record of him until now.  His younger brother Neil may also have attended this school.  If so anyone I ask anyone who may know of them or knew them personally to please email me.  I believe he was at your school because of his fathers work with armed forces entertainment network.  Any pictures or stories would be great.
Sincerely,
Sean Jensen

Greetings! I am Paul Wallace-Whitfield. I am Vincent and Kenny's younger brother, and (for identification purposes) I am the 6th from the left, bottom row (seated) in the 1966 panoramic photograph.
Vincent told me of the existence of your website, and when I visited it and looked at the photographs - particularly the 1966 Panoramic - the memories came flooding back. I was friends with Graeme Allardyce, Laurie Sharpe alias "Truck Blunt", and Justin Grant, to name a few, and I remember a number of others, who were not in my class, such as James Beech, Ibrahim Shagluf, Enrico Luigi Valvone, and Alastair Duke. I played football  for the school, and appeared (along with my brother, Kenneth) as one of The Twins, in the school's production of "Peter Pan" that year (1966-67).
I would appreciate hearing from anyone interested in dropping me a line.
Regards, Paul Wallace-Whitfield.(65 - 69)

Hi there.......I have just been told about the website for the old school I went to....St. Michaels School.
I left there in 1972 being one of the last pupils to be at the school. I first went there in 1962 so I spent 10 years of my life there. I have lots of memories of the school and still have loads of pictures of the place and old friends.
I have been driving HGV trucks since I started work but 3 years ago I underwent a liver transplant and now just work in the transport office at the company I work for.
I hope to be getting married next year to my girlfriend whom I met over the internet, she is American.

I am sure some of you know, Tuesday 9th April is Martin Graville's 60th
birthday (We are all getting older!)  Normally we do not, as an Association,
mark these occasions but I think an exception is in order.  He has been
Member Secretary and Mitre editor for many years.  On my joining St
Michael's in 1955, it was Martin who was put in charge of showing me around.
On my joining the Association, his was the first face I saw and recognised.
(Cliff Wallington was the second).  I was on the editorial team of the first
Mitre. One might be tempted to say that without Martin's continuous hard
work it might not have continued to be produced and we all would have been
the poorer for it.

So, Martin, on behalf of all the Old Michaelians, a VERY HAPPY 60th
BIRTHDAY.

Hi,
Browsing through the internet I have just discovered your website.  An Old Michaelian from the years 1949 to 1951, I still regard the two years I spent at the school as the highlight of my educational career.  After going on to high school in Lynn, I emigrated to New Zealand in 1952, and after completing an M.A. in English I taught in various New Zealand high schools until 1999.  I spent part of 2000 in England, but unfortunately didn't get to Norfolk.  I am now enjoying semi-retirement with my husband (also an English-born ex-teacher) in Whangarei.
Great to catch up with some details of the old school.

Hallo and a very Happy New Year to you all. I have found the site most interesting and there were some vivid reminders of my days at St. Michaels. Happy Christmas
It is good to see some names from my past reappear.
In the 70's I attended an OMA get together by accident. I didn't know a soul. They were all from the era before mine.
Now in this guest book I see names I know, what a relief, I thought they had all disappeared.
Anyway My time was 61 until 68, so Hi to Stephen Baxter and Nigel Packer.
I see that my sisters have made contributions so I thought I had better as well, else you might think I had snuffed it :-)
Does anybody remember this person: "Krik Mallac the black panther with ruby eyes" I believe it was what Callum Kirk used to refer to himself as?

Best wishes for the season.

Hello!
'Yes', there are still some old (ish) Old Michaelians out here!! My name is Iain Barr & I was a boarder at St.Michael's from 1961 to summer 1966.I am speechless with surprise as I came upon this site almost purely by chance and on a whim when using the Internet. I will be most pleased to hear from anyone who was there during my time and have noticed a couple of names that remember; e.g. Alistair Dukes, Ben Gunner, (somewhat foggily, I do confess)!!
I was quite friendly with a Philip Hopkins for some years after leaving - he often played the organ during church service in Heacham.
35 years back; how incredible!!
I understand there are still reunions & one is imminent this year?
I await a reply from whoever & must now go & 'get my head together'!!
Best wishes to you all

Hello to one and all. I was trolling the 'Net and decided to look up any references to "St. Micks". Much to my surprise, I found a report on the school and then this Web site. I doubt too many people remember me or my brothers Kenneth and Paul. I attended the school from 1964 to 1967, while my brothers were there with me for 1966-1967. We are from The Bahamas, which is where we all live now. I played soccer and cricket for the school and also ran the sprints and high-jumped. My best friend at that time was a young man named Steve Shields from Cambridge. It would be good to hear from any of you that remember us. The site is excellent. Keep up the good work. Regards, Vincent Wallace-Whitfield

A couple of weeks ago I was chatting to a friend of mine about the school we'd been at in Kenya during the dark ages. This inexplicable bout of nostalgia got me thinking about St Michael's and wondering what some of you are up to these days. So I looked on the net and there you are! Anyone remember me? The last of you that I saw was Pete Shepherd - we had lunch in a pub in the City sometime in the summer of '70 (or '71?). Also present Mike Shellock, Dermot Lewis, Jack and Debbie Owens, I think. Be nice to hear from you.
Mike Jackson ( 1965 - 67 )

Hi, Peter Shepherd here. Just want to change my e-mail address. Hemisphere e-mail is now cancelled. Please use, shepherdfam@yahoo.com
Thanks.
Peter Shepherd ( 1960 - 67 )

Hi everyone this is Nigel Packer. I have recently had contact with Stephen Baxter who attended St Michaels at the same time. We are attempting to find as many students who attended the school from 1963-1969 to get in contact with either of us to see if there are contacts that the OMA have no records or addresses of. In the "Whos Who" year book Sir Chris White (teacher) has a contact address in Malmesbury, Wilts.  Does anyone live in that area in the organisation? Stephen has an address in Illington, Thetford. Could this be the same Charles Bishop who attended school? Does anyone live near there? Contact me for the full address.

John Dring ('57-'65) logged on after receiving the Spring 2001 Edition. (I might say 'Autumn' here in Oz)! Still have marvelous memories of the last reunion I attended in 1994. We are due to come to the U.K. in June/July this year to help celebrate my mother's 80th birthday and also to marry off one of our daughters to an Irishman! I am most grieved that I am not able to co-incide things with the reunion, but, as usual, I will be thinking of you all as you make your merry pilgrimage in October.

Hi I attended St Michaels from 1955 - 1966, I did attend a reunion a few years ago, and it was great meeting, and failing to reconise those I had been at school with all those years ago.
Unfortunately due to a serious illness I was unable to attend recent reunions. I would love to hear from anybody who remembers me, and I am sure there must be a few. I still live at Heacham.
Best Wishes
Toni Howe ( i.e. Antonia Parke) ( 1955 - 66 )

Recently found this site by accident - after trying to trace an old friend from the school. I attended between 64-69 as both dayboy and boarder. i have spent two evenings trawling this site and it has brought back many memories. I would be pleased to hear from anyone who can remember me on steveb@spald11.freeserve.co.uk . Brilliant!
Stephen Baxter. (1964 - 69 )

Hi John & Stephen, Welcome to the OMA, Could you please contact Martin Graville on his e-mail address from the contacts page... Thanks Bill Cullin ( 1964 - 67 )

My name is John Tanner I am an American that went to St Michael's in 1957-58 and have trying to get intouch with anybody who knew anything about the school.

I have just found this site after talking to Mr. Oweis on the telephone (he was in the bath). Did not know it existed! Had a brilliant evening reading and looking. So many friends from my 5 years who have not been seen since. I will have to something about it. Memories just came flooding back. Stephen Baxter ( 1964-69 )

Gets better and better

This is better reading than reading about floods!

Good Morning

So that’s another Christmas over and done with and now on with the Spring Mitre, an Editor’s work is seemingly never done!!

This, therefore, is my usual request for your life histories, anecdotes, memories, “what ever happened to’s….” tall tales, the précis of the novel you have just written so we can all buy it, mini-scootering for geriatric OM’s (did YOU get one for Christmas?) or any other subject, and all for the interest of your erstwhile school colleagues. You have the fascinating tales, I have the Mitre so come on put pen to paper (or fingers to keyboards!!) and let your imagination run free.

I also enclose the latest e-mail list, I know some of you may already have had it but there are one or two additions/subtractions so it’s simpler to send it again to everybody on my ever increasing list of e-mail minded OM’s. As Cliff said in his letter, this all started two years ago with about 7, we are now up to 50 and new names appear regularly. If you know of any OM who has an e-mail address and doesn’t show on my list please let me know.

May I wish you all a Very Happy New Year and do please write and let me know of your activities.
           Very best wishes

          Martin Graville

The web site is great, lots of old photo's to bring back memories. Hopefully I can add to the photo's in a few months. Any old friends are welcome to contact me in Calgary...my e-mail is peters@hemispheretrade.com
Happy new year to everyone
Peter Shepherd ( 1960 - 67 )

Hi, I don't know if I qualify as a fully fledged Old Michaelian, but I did go to school there for a short while, and I lived in the girls residence where my mother was the 'matron'. I shared a room with Phillipa and Barbara - don't remember their last names. Phillipa's parents were in Bermuda. Just before we left, I celebrated my seventh birthday, and had a big cake in the shape of a number seven and all the big girls gave me the bumps! Visiting this site has brought back a lot of memories, too many to write here...I was there in the spring 1962. My father taught at the school. My two brothers, Stephen and Thomas were both pupils at the school. Anybody remember me? or my family? or giving me the bumps? We left the school and returned to Canada shortly after my seventh birthday.
P.S. If you do remember me, you can email me: aboston@microtec.net
Regards Alison Boston

I am delighted with the development of this Website for Old Michaelians and all thanks must go to William Cullin for the endless hours building the site to where it is today.
I understand we have already secured one "new" member through the Internet and I sincerely hope there will be many more - perhaps in time for the 50th Anniversary of the Association in 2003.
Cliff Wallington

Hello this is Nick Smith , I was at the school from 1961 to 1963 .I have recently moved from Ingoldisthorpe to South Wootton near King's Lynn .
I am a lecturer in electronics at The College of West Anglia in King's Lynn .
Looking forward to seeing you all at the next reunion weekend .
Best wishes,
Nick .

Esta muy bien lo que hizo tio Estuve visitando la pagina y tiene muchas cosas interesantes Lo felicito. Saludos Eric Garcia (Son of Stephanie Cullin).

The Mitre online is excellent. Sadly, John Dove died in a car accident a few years ago. It was reported in one edition of the Mitre so you may want to delete him from your "Missing Old Michaelian" section. John Haslett.

Good work !

Hi there!
This is a GREAT idea and you have done really well with the site!
I will get in touch again - particularly to follow up to some of the articles from the recent editions of the OMA Newsletters.
I remember some (many!) of the people mentioned.
Does anyone remember "The Beeches" where the girl boarders stayed for a while - I do!!
I'll be in touch again.
A very Happy New Year to everyone.
Mike Clark

I have enjoyed looking at the photographs and seeing the news on the website.
I send all Old Michaelian's greetings.
